We are very proud at BAUN of urology nurses and of our specialism as a whole. We are at the forefront of innovations in practice and are always striving for improvement in quality and practice as well as continuing to add our research to the evidence base.
Innovation and research is at the core of what we do and the way that we practice. Nursing is ever changing, as are procedures, treatment options and pathways. They change because someone has dared to ask a question and examined the answers, or maybe they have thought of a different way of doing something they have done for years and explored new ways of doing it resulting n it being put into routine practice. During our careers we will be involved in audits, service evaluations and clinical studies and it is great to have an understanding of what these are and how they can impact your practice.
It’s helpful to find out what is going on in your particular area. Get to know your research team and find out about trials that may be suitable for your patients. The research team will always be happy to help and advise. Get to know your information government team as they will be able to advise you of the best way to proceed should you want to audit your practice or perform a service evaluation.
