Why I value my time as a Trustee

BAUN is a fantastic community that provides collaboration, education and support for urology nurses across the UK. To me, it means being part of an organisation that is dedicated to advancing urological nursing practice through high-quality resources, continuing professional development and a shared commitment to improving patient care and wellbeing. BAUN has played a crucial role in creating a platform for urology nurses to connect, share knowledge and enhance their skills, which ultimately ensures that patients receive the best possible care. It’s an honour to be a trustee and work alongside passionate colleagues to help shape the future of urology nursing in such a friendly and supportive environment.

Why I have a passion for urology

I have a passion for urology as I am deeply committed to improving the lives of patients facing prostate cancer. The opportunity to provide compassionate and personalised care for complex urological conditions is very rewarding, as patients’ everyday life can be deeply affected by urological issues. I am driven by the chance to support patients and their families through every stage of their journey, from diagnosis to treatment and beyond, while contributing to advancements in care that enhance outcomes and quality of life.

Hannah joined The Royal Marsden in 2018 and became a Prostate Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist in 2022. She started her nurse training in 2012 at King’s College London, qualifying in 2015 with a BSc (Hons). She then worked as an Anaesthetic Nurse Practitioner at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge before specialising in cancer care and SACT administration. She is an Independent Prescriber and is currently completing MSc ‘Advanced Clinical Practice in Cancer Care’ to become an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. She also manages the uro-oncology cancer support workers across the Trust and is co-author of the Trust’s Holistic Needs Assessment policy.

She is passionate about increasing the engagement of prostate cancer patients with support services to improve the quality of information and care that they receive, particularly for those with metastatic disease and those suffering with erectile dysfunction. Hannah is also a Prostate Cancer UK Clinical Champion for this and presented a poster abstract on this topic at the EAUN Meeting 2023 in Milan.

Hannah has led the facilitation of educational workshops at The Royal Marsden for men on hormone therapy and how to help manage the side effects. She is also currently collaborating with physiotherapists, dietitians and therapists to develop patient information videos for prostate cancer patients to provide guidance on both physical and psychological support.
